Bachelor's Degree in Education Now Available on ABAC Campus... TIFTON--Georgia Southwestern State University (GSW) and Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College (ABAC) are doing their part to combat the teacher shortage in Georgia.
Beginning with the 2008 fall semester, GSW will offer a bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education on the ABAC campus in Tifton.
“We are excited that the Board of Regents has approved our proposal to offer an education degree on the ABAC campus,” said GSW President Kendall Blanchard. “With the shortage of teachers across the state, particularly in Southwest Georgia, this program will not only serve ABAC students who want to enter the teaching field but also the larger community served by the College. It also strengthens the important partnership between Georgia Southwestern and ABAC.”
“All our surveys indicated that a four-year education degree in Tifton would attract a large number of students,” ABAC President David Bridges said. “Georgia Southwestern really stepped up to the plate to make this happen. I think it’s going to be a win-win situation for everyone.”
This program will allow ABAC students to earn junior and senior level credits toward a Bachelor of Science degree in Early Childhood Education without having to leave Tifton. Approximately 30 students have already signed up for courses.
The addition of the Early Childhood degree at ABAC is the second new GSW degree offered for the 2008 fall term on the Tifton campus.
A Bachelor of Business Administration degree in Resource Management with concentrations in Agribusiness, Forestry and Wildlife Business, Bioenergy and Renewable Resource Business and Turfgrass Business will begin in Fall 2008, as well. GSW will also continue to offer junior and senior level night classes on the ABAC campus for four-year business degrees in management and accounting.
The financial aid deadline for the ABAC fall term is July 15. The admissions application deadline is Aug. 5. Fall semester classes begin Aug. 18.
For more information about the GSW bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education at ABAC, contact the Georgia Southwestern School of Education at (229) 931-2145 or ABAC at (229) 391-4830.

New Bachelor's Degree in Resource Management Coming To ABAC August 18... Beginning with the 2008 fall semester, Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College and Georgia Southwestern State University will expand their joint Bachelor of Business Administration degree by adding a major in Resource Management on the ABAC campus.
An information session covering all the details of the new program will be held at ABAC on April 28 at 6 p.m. in Room 139 of the Ag Sciences Building.
“This program represents one more way that ABAC is expanding its scope as we enter our second century of service,” ABAC President David Bridges said. “We have had an extremely positive relationship with Georgia Southwestern for a number of years, and I believe this partnership will result in a very popular bachelor’s degree program for our students.”
After completing their first two years of classes at ABAC, students will be able to stay at the college for junior and senior level classes necessary to earn a bachelor’s degree (BBA). Georgia Southwestern already offers junior and senior level night classes on the ABAC campus for four-year business degrees in management and accounting.
The Resource Management degree combines the benefits of a strong business degree with a working knowledge of various agriculture and forestry concentrations. The concentrations include AgriBusiness, Forestry and Wildlife Business, Bioenergy and Renewable Resource Business, and Turfgrass Business. Classes will be offered as a part of the regular daytime schedule.
