Students Scholarship Listings
Resources School of Human SciencesScholarships are awarded based upon availability of funds, as determined by the ABAC Foundation, Inc. It is important to note that all scholarships may not be made available for award during a given academic year. Descriptive information is provided for informational purposes only; please note that additional criteria may apply in determining a student’s eligibility for award. The following scholarships have a principal criterion of enrollment in a major program of study within the ABAC School of Human Sciences. ABAC Ag Alumni Scholarship Supported with proceeds from the annual ABAC AgClassic Golf Tournament and the ABAC Ag Alumni Council, this scholarship is awarded to students with a declared major in the School of Agriculture and Natural Resources who demonstrate leadership through participation in recognized activities, particularly FFA, FCCLA, and 4-H. Agrium U.S., Inc., Tifton, Georgia Scholarship This scholarship provides funds to students with a declared major within the School of Agriculture and Natural Resources with demonstrated leadership ability – particularly in organizations such as FFA, FCCLA and/or 4-H. O.V. Barkuloo Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to entering freshman from either Tift County High School (Tifton, Georgia) or Tiftarea Academy (Tift County, Georgia). Recipients will have a history of active participation in 4-H and academic achievement during their high school years. Recipients must also have a declared major in an agriculture-related field of study, family and consumer sciences, or a pre-professional area of study. J. Lamar Branch Memorial Scholarship Recipients must have declared a major within the School of Agriculture and Natural Resources, with preference to students majoring in Agricultural Education, Forestry, or Family and Consumer Sciences. Recipients must demonstrate strong academic performance in coursework taken to date, whether high school or collegiate. Nancy Clark Coleman Scholarship Established by the ABAC Ag Alumni Council in honor of ABAC’s first Director of Alumni Relations, this scholarship is awarded to primarily to residents of Colquitt County, Georgia with a declared major in Family and Consumer Sciences, an area of production agriculture, or agricultural education. Recipients must demonstrate strong academic achievement. Josephine L. Cloudman Scholarship Recipients must have a record of strong academic achievement and demonstrated leadership skills. Students enrolled in any major program of study are eligible, but there is a preference to Family and Consumer Sciences majors. Jay Deason Memorial Scholarship The purpose of the Jay Deason Memorial Scholarship is to encourage ABAC students to pursue a degree in education, to maintain excellence in their pursuit of such degree, and to thereafter enhance the lives of the children they teach. The scholarship was established to memorialize and honor the life and goals of Jay Deason, a former ABAC student, by providing scholarships to students meeting the established criteria. John Henry Dorminy Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to students with majors in forestry, nursing, accounting, or a pre-professional (medicine, law) program of study. Recipients with academic potential and financial need from Ben Hill County, Georgia will be given first preference, with second preference to students from contiguous counties, then to Georgia residents at large. The Frances P. Eidson Honorary Scholarship Established to honor Frances P. Eidson by providing scholarships to students pursuing degrees in either mathematics or education at ABAC, this scholarship offers support to students demonstrating academic achievement in one of the stated majors – including nontraditional students – and possessing a strong record of community service and/or extracurricular involvement. Family and Consumer Sciences Scholarship Established with support from ABAC Home Economics alumni, this scholarship is awarded to students majoring in Family and Consumer Sciences who maintain a strong academic record. Eunice Lastinger Mixon Annual Scholarship The Georgia Student Finance Commission has established this scholarship to honor Mrs. Eunice Lastinger Mixon, who has a long history of involvement with education in the State of Georgia. Recipients are selected upon recommendation from the faculty of the School of Human Sciences at ABAC based upon academic achievement and leadership qualities. Recipients must be Georgia residents and either U.S. citizens or permanent resident aliens. Eunice Lastinger Mixon Endowed Scholarship This scholarship is awarded upon recommendation of the faculty of the School of Human Sciences at ABAC to Georgia residents who are U.S. citizens or permanent resident aliens. Recipients must be declared education majors with a record of academic achievement. Barbara Bishop Morgan Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to honor Barbara Bishop Morgan, a former member of the ABAC faculty. Recipients are selected based upon recommendations from the faculty of the School of Human Sciences, with preference to students enrolled in the education program who are not receiving the HOPE Scholarship. B.L. Southwell Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to students majoring in an agriculture-related field or in Family and Consumer Sciences. Students with agricultural majors in animal science will receive preference, and all recipients must maintain a strong academic standing. Charles Mack Sumner (’56) Endowment for Students Recognizing the special relationship between Mr. Sumner and his alma mater, ABAC, this scholarship is awarded to students graduating from Tift County High School (Tifton, Georgia) who have financial need and a history of academic excellence. Preference will be given to students with majors in education or agriculture. Recommendations in support of candidates are preferred. Julian Jay and Mary Lewis Thomas Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is awarded upon recommendation of the ABAC Family and Consumer Sciences faculty, with first preference in award being to a FACS major, then to a student with a major within the School of Agriculture and Natural Resources. Recipients should have strong academic records and demonstrated leadership in their high school careers, particularly through involvement in FCCLA or 4-H. L.M. Veazey Memorial Scholarship Scholarship recipients must be enrolled in a program of study within the School of Agriculture and Natural Resources or in the Family and Consumer Sciences program, and must be rising sophomores with a record of strong academic performance. Preference is given to students with a major in Family and Consumer Sciences. |
