Students Scholarship Listings
Resources General ScholarshipsScholarships are awarded based upon availability of funds, as determined by the ABAC Foundation, Inc. It is important to note that all scholarships may not be made available for award during a given academic year. Descriptive information is provided for informational purposes only; please note that additional criteria may apply in determining a student’s eligibility for award. The following scholarships have no specific degree/major requirements, although other criteria may apply. ABAC Athletic Scholarship Recipients are selected by the ABAC Athletic Director based upon demonstrated athletic and academic achievement. ABAC Foundation Scholars Program The ABAC Foundation Scholars Program awards scholarships to students demonstrating outstanding academic achievement and extracurricular involvement, as well as strong leadership skills in their schools and in their communities. ABAC Staff Forum Scholarship This scholarship was established by the ABAC Staff Forum to provide assistance and support to dependents of ABAC staff who demonstrate consistent academic performance. ABAC/Staplcotn Congressional Internship The purpose of this scholarship is to provide ABAC students the opportunity to participate in an internship in the Washington, D.C. office of Senator Saxby Chambliss. The internship will be offered to one student per academic year to work in the area of agricultural policy and to obtain direct knowledge of the congressional system. The selected recipient serves during one semester, at the discretion of the Senator’s office and ABAC. Allan C. and Leila J. Garden Scholarship The Allan C. and Leila J. Garden Foundation sponsors this scholarship designed to assist students from Ben Hill, Irwin, or Wilcox Counties in Georgia, who will not receive the HOPE Scholarship. Dr. Mike Bader Memorial Scholarship Recipients of this scholarship are selected each year from student workers of the Extension University of Georgia faculty located at the Rural Development Center (Tifton, Georgia Campus). Baldwin Woman’s Club Scholarship Preference in awarding this scholarship is given to non-traditional students or dependents of ABAC employees who do not receive financial aid, with recommendations made by the Baldwin Woman’s Club at ABAC. Recipients must have completed one academic term at ABAC and also have maintained good academic standing. O.V. Barkuloo Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to entering freshman from either Tift County High School or Tiftarea Academy in Tifton, Georgia. Recipients will have a history of active participation in 4-H and of academic achievement during their high school years. Recipients must have a declared major in an agriculture-related field of study, family and consumer sciences, or a pre-professional area of study. E.P. and Iliene Bowen, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Awarded to entering freshmen or rising upperclassmen (20+ semester hours) who will be returning to the ABAC campus the following academic term and are have a strong academic record. Non-traditional (part-time) students may be considered for award. Britt Memorial Scholarship Recipients of this scholarship show potential for success in their chosen major and have financial need. E. Lanier Carson / Kelley Manufacturing Company Scholarship Preference in awarding this scholarship is given to the employees or to the dependents of the employees of Kelley Manufacturing, then to students from Tift County, Georgia and its contiguous counties. Recipients must have a record of strong academic performance. Maria Guadalupe Cervantes Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is awarded by the Maria Guadalupe Cervantes Memorial Scholarship Committee to a Georgia resident of Hispanic/Latino descent who is not eligible for state or federal financial aid and a strong history of academic achievement. Josephine L. Cloudman Scholarship Recipients must have a record of strong academic achievement and demonstrated leadership skills. Students enrolled in any major program of study are eligible, but there is a preference to Family and Consumer Sciences majors. Coca Cola High School Athletic Scholarship Established by the Coca Cola Bottling Company Consolidated to provide support for entering freshman from the Tifton Coca Cola Market (Tift, Irwin, Turner, Worth, Ben Hill, Crisp, Berrien, Cook, Brooks, Thomas, and Colquitt Counties in Georgia) with recommendation from the ABAC Athletic Director. Recipients generally demonstrate academic and athletic achievement. George D. Conger Scholarship Students enrolled in any major program of study with a solid academic record are eligible for this scholarship. Those with financial need will be given preference. Agnes Davis Donaldson Scholarship Awarded to rising sophomores who have demonstrated outstanding academic success during their studies at ABAC, residents of Tift County will be given first priority as recipients for this scholarship. Recipients must plan to graduate from ABAC. John Henry Dorminy Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to students with majors in forestry, nursing, accounting, or a pre-professional (medicine, law) program of study. Recipients with academic potential and financial need from Ben Hill County, Georgia will be given first preference, with second preference to students from contiguous Georgia counties, then to Georgia residents at large. Eastman Scholarship Recipients may be entering freshmen or rising sophomores with a solid academic record. John Kimbrel English Memorial Scholarship Recipients are selected from residents of Miller County, Georgia, with preference to students who are not receiving the HOPE Scholarship. FFA Officer Scholarship This scholarship recognizes the special relationship between the FFA organization and ABAC, and is awarded to newly-enrolled ABAC students who are/were State FFA officers, or to returning ABAC students who are/were State FFA officers. All recipients must demonstrate academic achievement during their coursework at ABAC. FFA Welding Contest Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to the overall winner of the District 5 Welding Contest, if attending ABAC. Joseph A. Haley, Sr. Scholarship Recipients must exemplify academic achievement during their high school (if an entering freshman) or collegiate (if a rising sophomore) coursework, with students from Tift and contiguous counties in Georgia given preference. E.B. Hamilton, Jr. Memorial Scholarship Scholarships are awarded upon recommendation by the ABAC softball coach and the E.B. Hamilton, Jr. Scholarship Committee to students who have a record of strong academic performance and who have been involved in the Tift County High School (Georgia) softball program. Oren and Aileen Grace Harden Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to students with strong academic records, with preference to students majoring in an agriculture-related field of study. C. Alex Kemp Scholarship Established in memory of C. Alex Kemp, this scholarship is awarded to students exhibiting consistent academic achievement, with preference to entering freshmen. Charles Kemp, Jr. Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to students with consistent academic performance. Preference is given to entering freshmen. George H. King Scholarship Recipients of this scholarship may be either entering freshmen or rising sophomores with strong academic records in their prior coursework. Fredrick William Kinard, Jr. Scholarship Either freshmen or upperclassmen are eligible for this scholarship, with preference to freshman. Recipients demonstrate consistently strong academic achievement and financial need. Clarence Robert Lang Scholarship Recipients may be either entering freshmen or rising sophomores with strong academic performance in either their high school or collegiate coursework, as applicable. Middle South Georgia Soil and Water Conservation District Scholarship Awarded annually to the first place district winner of the high school essay contest on soil and water conservation, recipients of this scholarship are selected from eligible students from Ben Hill, Brooks, Colquitt, Crisp, Irwin, Tift, Thomas, Turner, and Worth Counties in Georgia. Dr. Donna E. Miller / Class of 1966 Leadership Scholarship Established to honor the life of Dr. Donna E. Miller, this scholarship is awarded to upperclassmen demonstrating leadership in campus activities at ABAC. Hon. Zell and Shirley Miller Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to an ABAC student who is a Georgia resident and who has a record of strong academic performance in his/her prior coursework. Dr. Larry R. Moorman Scholarship This scholarship, established by Dr. and Mrs. Larry R. Moorman, is awarded to students demonstrating academic achievement who are not receiving the HOPE Scholarship. C.L. Morehead Scholarship Recipients of this scholarship may be either entering freshman or rising sophomores evidencing academic excellence in all coursework who are residents of either Ben Hill or Irwin County, Georgia. Moreno Family Migrant Annual Scholarship Awarded to migrant students or dependents of migrant workers who have engaged in agriculturally-related work that requires them to re-locate with the seasons, this scholarship supports U.S. citizens who demonstrate strong academic skills. Moreno Migrant Endowed Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to migrant students or dependents of migrant workers who are U.S. citizens and have demonstrated consistent academic performance. John P. O’Connor Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to graduates from high schools in Manatee County, Florida, with preference to students with active involvement in 4-H and FFA. Hugh and Norma Erwin Perry Scholarship Established by Mr. and Mrs. Jack L. Perry in memory of his parents, this scholarship is awarded to entering freshman who have graduated from Calhoun High School (Calhoun, Georgia) to encourage these students to pursue a college degree at ABAC. Charles W. Powell III Scholarship Recipients must be enrolled at ABAC in the accounting program or in another major within the ABAC School of Business. A record of strong academic performance in all of coursework is required. If no accounting or business-related student is eligible, students with majors in other areas may be considered. President’s Choice Scholarship Recipients are selected by the President of Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, and must demonstrate academic excellence and leadership in school and/or community activities. Weetie and Homer Rankin Scholarship Georgia residents with academic potential as judged by prior academic performance (including SAT scores and GPAs), leadership potential, and academic need are eligible for this scholarship. Recipients must pursue full-time study toward an associate degree at ABAC. San Pedro de Tutule Scholarship The purpose of the San Pedro de Tutule Scholarship is to encourage students to pursue a college degree at ABAC, to maintain excellence in their pursuit of such degree and, thereafter, to enhance the lives of those with whom they interact. Recipients are generally Hispanic/Latino farm workers or family members of such farm workers. Shoney’s Scholarship One scholarship is awarded annually to a graduate of Turner County High School (Turner County, Georgia) and one to a graduate of Tiftarea Academy (Tift County, Georgia). Recipients are selected by their high school guidance counselors. J.P. Short Scholarship for Free Enterprise Recipients are selected by ABAC upon recommendation by the Short & Paulk Supply Company, with preference to Short & Paulk employees, then to employees’ dependents. The scholarship is awarded to students showing academic potential and possessing a strong academic record. Jodie Snow Tennis Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to a qualified female student who has demonstrated academic achievement and a history of involvement in the sport of tennis. Recipients must participate in the ABAC Tennis Program. Rev. and Mrs. W.J. Stanford Scholarship Established in honor of Rev. Stanford (an ABAC alumnus) and his wife, recipients are selected based upon academic performance, with preference to students from Turner County, Georgia. Jessie Lee Stephens Scholarship The purpose of this scholarship is to recognize and assist deserving Tift County, Georgia youth who have exhibited qualities of determination, dedication, and leadership during their 4-H careers. Recipients must be Tift County, Georgia 4-H members graduating from either Tift County High School or Tiftarea Academy, and are selected from recommendations of the Tift County, Georgia Extension Office. B. Frank Strickland Memorial Scholarship Recipients are selected from recommendations of the B. Frank Strickland Memorial Scholarship Fund Scholarship Recommendation Committee. Recipients must be residents of a county involved in tobacco production located within the State of Georgia, with first preference to students wishing to major in an agriculture-related subject. Strickland Scholarship Rising sophomores who have attended ABAC for at least one semester while maintaining an excellent academic record during their coursework at ABAC are eligible for this scholarship. Involvement in campus activities is also considered. Students with an agriculture-related major may be given preference – particularly if they have a background of achievement in 4-H. Charles Mack Sumner (’56) Endowment for Students Recognizing the special relationship between Mr. Sumner and his alma mater, ABAC, this scholarship is awarded to students graduating from Tift County High School (Tifton, Georgia) who have financial need and a history of academic excellence. Preference will be given to students with majors in education or agriculture. Recommendations in support of candidates are preferred. Tift County High School Football Scholarship Established by the Tift County (Georgia) Touchdown Club, this scholarship is awarded to a former football player from the Tift County High School (Georgia) football team. Recipients must have played for the TCHS football team for at least three (3) of their four (4) years in high school. Recipients are selected based in part upon recommendations from the head coach of the TCHS football team. University System of Georgia Foundation Scholarship This scholarship is offered to an ABAC student who has demonstrated strong academic performance and leadership ability. Larry W. “Buck” Wheeler Memorial Scholarship Rising sophomores who have attended ABAC for at least one semester shall be eligible for this scholarship. Selection is based upon academic excellence and contribution to student life through recognizable leadership while at ABAC. John David Wood Memorial Scholarship This scholarship is awarded to students who demonstrate consistent academic achievement. James E. Zorn Memorial Scholarship Recipients of this scholarship may be entering freshmen or rising sophomores with strong academic performance.
